5 things I wish I knew as a beginner nail tech

Guest Author - Grace Bassom

Hi! My name is Grace, I’m 21 years old and a fully qualified nail technician. I trained and qualified with Glitterbels shortly after I turned 18. When I first started, I remember feeling overwhelmed and not knowing where to start. That’s why I wanted to share some advice for any nail techs who are training, freshly qualified, or simply considering this career.

1 - Practice really does make perfect.

It may sound cliché, but the more you practice, the better the outcome. Doing nails isn’t easy, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Focus on the things you struggle with and improve your skills. It’s a lot of muscle memory!

2 – Good education is essential.

The most important thing to me is good education. At the end of the day, you are working with chemicals and tools that can cause issues if used incorrectly. Also, using an e-file without training can cause serious harm, too. GlitterbelAs Training Academy are there to help us learn and become the best version of ourselves!

3 - Invest in quality professional products.

Using good-quality professional products will help make such a difference, especially when you are learning. Glitterbels' products gave me the flawless consistency I wanted, which helped me focus on picking up beads and working with my application instead of battling with low-quality products.

4 - Confidence doesn’t come overnight.

It takes time, and I’ve been doing nails for 3 years and still struggle. But you have to remember we can’t be perfect every single day. Everyone was once a beginner and we’re all constantly learning. It’s okay to have off days. As long as we try our best, then we’ve done everything we can right now!

5 - The nail community is your friend

Once you’ve found your community, which for me was Glitterbels, you will always have a huge support system behind you. Having such a supportive community makes all the difference, especially when you are first starting and can be feeling lost.

I really hope you found these tips helpful and that they give you a little extra confidence on your own nail journey. Remember, every nail tech starts somewhere, and with practice and passion, your skills will only continue to grow.
